چکیده

This study investigates acoustic correlates of prominence in Lizu (Tibeto-Burman). has been argued to have a hybrid prosodic system combining lexical tone on monosyllabic words and patterns with stress-like tonal characteristics polysyllabic words, although empirical evidence is lacking. presents an investigation the pitch disyllabic Kala variety (HL, HH, LH). Using parameters duration, intensity, f0, it attempts sort out different forms prominence, explore their interaction tone. The measurements are taken from experimental data eight speakers (4 male 4 female). results statistical analyses suggest that first syllable position all three patterns. Our consistent interpreting pattern HL as more (with intensity correlate stress) HH LH tone-like stress cued by full realization tone). contributes better understanding organization also suggests methodology for further exploration other varieties.

Analyses of genetic structure of Tibeto-Burman populations reveals sex-biased admixture in southern Tibeto-Burmans.

An unequal contribution of male and female lineages from parental populations to admixed ones is not uncommon in the American continents, as a consequence of directional gene flow from European men into African and Hispanic Americans in the past several centuries. However, little is known about sex-biased admixture in East Asia, where substantial migrations are recorded. Tibeto-Burman (TB) popu...

The acoustic and perceptual features of tone in the tibeto-burman language ao naga

The tonemes of the Waromung Mongsen dialect of Ao Naga, a Tibeto-Burman of northeast India, are described with respect to their auditory and acoustic features. Even though rather small FO differences are found to separate each contrasting toneme, the results of a perception test nevertheless demonstrate that these small differences are perceptually salient to a native speaker and are readily id...

Replicating in Naxi (Tibeto-Burman) an Experiment Designed for Yorùbá: An Approach To ‘Prominence-Sensitive Prosody’ vs. ‘Calculated Prosody’

The starting-point of this study is the hypothesis (suggested by an overview of typologically varied languages) that it may be useful to characterise prosodic systems in terms of the degree to which they rely on the calculation of tone sequences. Each language could be placed at a certain position along a typological continuum between two types of prosodic organisation: (i) ‘calculated prosody’...

Prosodic issues in synthesising thadou, a tibeto-burman tone language

The objective of the present analysis is to present linguistic constraints on the phonetic realisation of lexical tone which are relevant for the choice of a speech synthesis development strategy for a specific type of tone language. The selected case is Thadou (Tibeto-Burman), which has lexical and morphosyntactic tone as well as phonetic tone displacement. The last two constraint types differ...
